150 students kickstart their energy transition careers

On Thursday, June 24, more than 150 students and professionals in the energy transition received the Energy Academy Certificate. Participants in the Energy Academy programme followed a series of learning activities, debates, and excursions on the energy transition throughout the year. Most participants received their certificates via a livestream, but a select group received their certificates from Dick Pouwels, Chairman of the Executive Board of Hanze University of Applied Sciences, and Cisca Wijmenga, Rector Magnificus of the University of Groningen, during the New Energy Forum, the festival about energy transition and sustainable mobility. The Energy Academy is part of New Energy Coalition and provides an annual -free- programme of learning activities on the energy transition.

In addition to collaboration and knowledge, the energy transition requires the right-trained people. To contribute to this, Energy Academy, in collaboration with Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen and the University of Groningen, offers students and other interested parties extra-curricular programmes and activities from different perspectives. By participating in these activities, students can further deepen their knowledge of the energy transition alongside their regular studies. In recent years, the number of students completing the Energy Academy programme has grown significantly, from the first nine certificates five years ago to 150 in the past academic year, in which some 3,000 students participated in the learning activities.

Talent in focus

The growing interest in the broad field of energy transition is also reflected in the Talent in Focus Monitor, published in April. Currently, 1 in 12 graduating students enters the job market with energy expertise.
