Mid-level Business Developer Future-Proof Energy Systems (0.8-1 FTE)

The energy transition does not happen on paper, but in practice. In Noord-Holland Noord We are looking for a Medior Business Developer for Future-Proof Energy Systems (0.8-1 FTE). You will work on concrete solutions for grid congestion, hydrogen chains, and integrated energy systems — together with companies, governments, and knowledge institutions.

North Holland Region (based in Alkmaar)

Although you work from Noord-Holland Noord, you are part of a larger organization. New Energy Coalition It has a strong base in Groningen and works on energy innovation at a national and European level. This means you make a local impact while simultaneously having access to a broad network, knowledge, and projects outside the region. You regularly collaborate with colleagues and partners from other regions, thereby building your own (inter)national profile.

You will start working in a region that is at the forefront. Noord-Holland Noord has been named Hydrogen Valley of the Year, is working on Europe's first Renewable Energy Valley (REFORMERS), and serves as a living lab for solutions regarding grid congestion and system integration.

What makes this role unique? You are close to the execution. No long decision-making processes, but direct communication with partners and a quick turn from idea to project.

Tasks

In this role, you work at the intersection of business development, innovation, and project realization. You develop and realize projects that contribute to future-proof energy systems, including:

  • Initiating and realizing projects related to system integration, smart energy systems, and hydrogen;
  • Building new collaborations with companies, governments, and knowledge institutions — and translating these into concrete projects;
  • Identifying opportunities within national and European programs (such as Horizon Europe and ERDF) and seizing them;
  • Developing project ideas into strong proposals and grant applications;
  • Coordinating projects from idea to execution, including planning, stakeholder management, and progress;
  • Actively building a regional and international network (including around Hydrogen Valley and European collaborations).

You have a great deal of personal responsibility in this role: you build your own portfolio of projects and collaborations, with room to take initiative and provide direction.

Job requirements

You combine a substantive interest in energy systems with entrepreneurship and a structured way of working. In addition, you have:

  • A completed higher professional or university education (business administration, technical or similar);
  • Several years of relevant work experience, preferably in a public-private or innovation environment;
  • Affinity with the energy transition and interest in energy systems (electricity, heat, hydrogen, green gas);
  • Experience with or interest in grant programs and innovation projects;
  • Strong skills in stakeholder management and business development;
  • The ability to translate ideas into concrete projects and proposals;
  • A structured working style and the overview to manage multiple projects in parallel.
  • Due to the regional nature of the position, speaking the Dutch language is a requirement.

For this position, we are looking for someone who is actively present in the region and invests in building a local network. The role therefore requires a colleague who can be present in the region regularly, with the flexibility to work in a hybrid manner. To facilitate this, we provide public transport cards and shared mobility, among other things.

What do we offer?

  • A role with a direct impact on the energy transition in the Netherlands and Europe;
  • Plenty of room for personal initiative and responsibility;
  • Working in a strong network of companies, governments, and knowledge institutions;
  • A content-driven and collegial team within Research & Innovation;
  • Opportunities to further develop yourself within business development and innovation projects;
  • Flexible work environment with hybrid working;
  • The opportunity to travel internationally several times a year within European projects and collaborations;
  • A salary scale as Project Manager B (€ 4.046 – € 6.376), the scale depending on your work experience. The position offers opportunities for advancement to Project Manager C with a maximum salary of € 7.521;
  • A premium-free pension;
  • 28 days of leave for full-time employment;
  • Work laptop and phone.
