Noord-Holland Noord region calls for attention to energy future
On November 13, 2019, a meeting for members of the Dutch House of Representatives and senior civil servants was organized by the northern province region of Noord-Holland. The goal of this meeting was to draw attention to the energy transition and developments in the region, as well as the development opportunities. We were involved in the preparations.
During the short presentations, good examples were presented that Members of Parliament can use in the energy debates scheduled for the coming weeks. On November 14th, a lobby document was also personally presented to all Members of Parliament. This led to it being placed on the agenda for the debate on grid infrastructure on November 28th. Examples of innovative energy projects in the region were central. Holland above Amsterdam is an innovative region working on solutions for the energy issues of today and tomorrow.
Our colleague Frank Brandsen also spoke at the meeting.
I'm concerned about the economic impact of power supply problems. The development of renewable energy and new data centers is currently being hampered by regional grid constraints. We need investments in the grid capacity of this region. The region is committed to solutions, with local wind and solar generation playing a significant role.
- Frank Brandsen, Business Developer & Regional Manager Noord-Holland Noord
The message to the members of Parliament and government officials present was clear: The region wants to innovate to address regional and national energy challenges. The northern part of the province of Noord-Holland is strategically located for the Netherlands' future hydrogen economy. With the emergence of the North Sea as an energy hub, Den Helder can become the ideal location where various energy sources converge. This requires national support for this innovative region.
