Students build hydrogen-powered sloop
A unique collaboration in the field of sustainability and education. That is what students of Noorderpoort Energy & Maritime and Marine Service Noord (MSN), partner of Gas2.0 and New Energy Coalition Energy College, have been busy with this for the past year. Together they worked on the project "With H2 to the HT."
Hydrogen-powered sloop
An 8-meter lifeboat was fitted with a hydrogen-powered fuel cell unit. The sloop was intended to serve as a support boat during the Harlingen-Terschelling race. The fuel cell unit was located in a separate room within the school, allowing the students to work on it in peace. Much work also remained on the sloop itself. To complete the sloop and unit on time, two groups of approximately 10 Noorderpoort students each, studying AOT and Maritime Officer, had been working together on a voluntary basis since last September. Unfortunately, the coronavirus threw a wrench in the works, and the project was halted overnight.
