Research into energy and mobility transitions
Research that accelerates transitions
Breaking Barriers: Research Studies to Accelerate Transitions compiles the full papers and summaries presented during the scientific conference of the New Energy Forum 2026. The publication was compiled by Wim JL Elving, with support from Rebecca Scholtz, Sofia El Ouafi, and Eva Hijstek. The book is published by Entrance – Centre of Expertise Energy at Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen.
The publication was developed to make research results on energy, mobility, and societal transitions accessible to researchers, professionals, policymakers, and students. The collection demonstrates how practice-oriented research can contribute to accelerating sustainable change.
Topics from this publication
This collection provides a broad overview of current research projects and insights regarding research into energy transitions. Topics covered include:
- The development of regional energy systems, hydrogen chains, and renewable energy.
- Innovations in the field of sustainable mobility, logistics, and zero-emission transport.
- The role of collaboration, entrepreneurship, and societal acceptance within transitions.
- New insights into energy storage, hydrogen, biogas, methanol, and other sustainable energy carriers.
- Practice-oriented methods for knowledge development, innovation, and system change.
The power of interdisciplinary research
The energy transition requires solutions that go beyond technology alone. This publication shows how technical, economic, societal, and organisational issues are interconnected. By bringing together various disciplines, research into energy transitions offers valuable insights for everyone working on sustainable change.
In addition, the collection underscores the importance of collaboration between knowledge institutions, businesses, and governments. The included studies demonstrate how research can contribute to innovation and practical applications in the energy and mobility transition.
