Project meeting Waterstof Werkt: H2 Train and Learn Hub

Last October, the Waterstof Werkt program was relaunched and continued under the name Waterstof Werkt: H2 Train and Learn HubWhat exactly does the program entail? And what are the stakeholders in the various work packages working on? To update each other on progress and provide insights into each other's work, a project meeting was held at Noorderpoort on May 16th. During the meeting, presentations were given from various educational institutions about their activities, and there was a poster presentation of all the work packages. A brief look back at the first project meeting. Waterstof Werkt: H2 Train and Learn Hub.

What does the program entail?

On one of the few warm days that 2024 has seen so far, the project meeting was held on May 16 Waterstof Werkt: H2 Train and Learn Hub The event was opened by project leader Jogchem Meinema in a Noorderpoort room on Muntinglaan in Groningen. In his introduction, he briefly reflected on the first project meeting, then called "Waterstof Werkt" (Water Dust Works), and discussed the changes brought about by the project's relaunch. He also explained the program's content, briefly introduced the various work packages, and shared what has been achieved so far.

PhD research

After the introduction, Iris Westra, a PhD student at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering, spoke about her research, "Atmospheric Hydrogen Measurements During the Energy Transition," which she is conducting with Bert Scheeren. This research is important because it allows them to map hydrogen emissions as use increases. They are measuring this using high-precision atmospheric hydrogen measurements at their measuring station in Lutjewad, Groningen, and field measurements at various locations.

Practice-oriented research program

Next, Saskia Lieffering, lecturer-researcher and project leader of ENTRANCE learning communities, and a Hanze University of Applied Sciences student took the stage to discuss the practice-oriented research program at ENTRANCE. This program allows students, in collaboration with lecturers, researchers, and professors, to use the facilities at ENTRANCE (and soon the REMO lab) to work on market issues related to hydrogen and green molecules. During their presentation, they provided a glimpse into how this works in practice.

Project activities

And it's not just at the University of Groningen and Hanze University of Applied Sciences that all sorts of activities are taking place in the field of hydrogen. There are also numerous initiatives at vocational colleges. For example, two students from Alfa College and their project group are working on a hydrogen-powered Ground Power Unit at Groningen Airport Eelde. During the project meeting, they explained that they were given a container, were allowed to develop a plan, purchase supplies, and work on a prototype that, by the time of presentation, actually works. A new group of students will be tasked with continuing this work.

Poster presentation

The program Waterstof Werkt: H2 Train and Learn Hub consists of seven work packages. To clarify what these work packages entail, which activities are being worked on, which deliverables are being delivered, and which partners are collaborating within the work package, a poster was created for each work package. These posters were displayed in the room during the project meeting, and after the presentations, everyone could browse the posters, view them, and ask questions about them. Looking back

A project meeting wouldn't be complete without a group photo. This one was taken on the steps of Noorderpoort, where all the graduates are normally photographed.

We look back on a very successful meeting, where we shared our project activities and gave people the opportunity to get to know each other better, even those working on completely different projects. We expressed our wish to organize more such meetings, perhaps inviting more collaborating partners to participate.
