Our contribution to the energy transition

Our mission is to provide a substantial contribution to the energy transition. The contributions we provide to the energy transition (read: system transformation), are based on breakthroughs that are necessary to break new ground. After all, if everything stays the same, nothing will change.

New Energy Coalition wants to contribute to at least four necessary breakthroughs to accelerate the energy transition:

1. Scientific breakthroughs

Developing new knowledge for the sustainable generation, storage and distribution of energy as well as its application in processes and products. To this end, we carry out scientific and applied research. We also provide various facilities to enable the development of new knowledge.

2. Breakthroughs in industrial applications, processes and products

Traction emerges as businesses apply new solutions on a large scale, creating a competitive cost price for sustainable energy (applications). We see several themes as new solutions: System Integration, North Sea, Hydrogen, LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), Green Gas and Intelligent Energy Systems. To test these themes in practice and ultimately bring them to market, we make use of (European) programmes.

3. Breakthroughs in people’s thinking and actions
A new generation of (young) people needs to be educated who fully understands the energy system transition (T-shaped professionals). That’s why we work together with the Energy College (collaborative intermediate vocational education institutions), the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and the University of Groningen. Our motto is: from vocational to MBA.

4. Breakthroughs in the manner of innovation
A system transformation requires collaboration between knowledge institutions, industry and government. We have experience in all these disciplines. In the (commercial) market we work with start-ups, SMEs and large(r) businesses. Open innovation is a must for us.

Our mission is economically and socially relevant for the partners of New Energy Coalition. Our staff, the students and professionals are motivated by the opportunity to make a substantial contribution to a more sustainable and beautiful world for future generations.
